Roger was born on April 3rd, 1932, at Vinton, Iowa, the son of Ray and Nina (Geiger) Harrison. He received his education in the rural country schools in the area of his birth and graduated from the Vinton High School. In high school, he was introduced to Beth Wilson, becoming high-school sweethearts and later marrying on July 27th, 1952, at the Vinton First Presbyterian Church. The couple lived in Iowa City where he attended the University of Iowa before serving in the United States Army for two years. Upon his honorable discharge, they returned to Iowa City where he studied law. In 1958, they moved to Marshalltown where he began work for the law firm of Mote, Wilson and Welp. He saw the firm grow from three attorneys to ten before his retirement in 1997 as senior partner in the firm and after 39 years of practice. Roger first started as a trial lawyer but later did more real estate and commercial transactions as well as bankruptcies.
Upon retirement, Roger could devote more time to “the fish he didn’t quite catch yet,” and quality time with Beth, his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, fields and streams and was a talented woodworker.
Mr. Harrison was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Iowa Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Marshall County Bar Association, a lifetime member of the VFW #839, American Legion, past member of the Jaycees and chaired the Marshall County Republicans.
Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 53 years, Beth, his children: David Harrison of Ankeny and his children Lindsay Grow and Jamie Harrison, Pam Harrison Chambers (Dan) and their son Drew all of Altoona, and Tim (Nikki) Harrison and their son Chase all of Ankeny, his brothers Dean (Phyllis) Harrison of Garrison, Iowa and Gary (Karen) Harrison of Williamsburg, Iowa, sister-in-law Joan Harrison of Shellsburg, Iowa as well as numerous friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
In death he has rejoined his parents and brother, Marion.
