George Morrison, 1878-1966; Constable of Swan at some point?

MORRISON, ROLAND, BRIGHAM

Since his family lived in Poweshiek County, I've also added this message to that county's query board:

I am looking for information on George William Morrison, our grandfather. He was born Feb 14, 1978 in either Rosebud/Redbud or Deep River, Iowa.

At some point in his life, my father told me that he was the constable of Swan, Iowa. This probably was between 1898 and 1914. I'm sure after or shortly before 1914, he must have moved to Des Moines, as all the children seem to have been born there. I would like to find information about this time in his life. Census searches have not been helpful, as yet. Is there anyone out there who can assist?

For further description of him, at the age of 13, about 1891, he was run over by an ice wagon which necessitated one of his legs being amputated. The story goes, that he whittled his own peg-leg type prosthesis.

I am currently in process of contacting the folks at the Knoxville Library, but would love to see whether anyone on-list has info regarding this man. Thank so much, Sandy.
