Hi Phil,

No obituary is listed in the Index to the obituaries held by the Marion County Genealogical Society.

It's often difficult to find any vital records for people that far back in the 19th century unless family kept records. But you could look at the newspapers in Marion County

Some were being published in the late 1850s. You could try writing to the papers to see what they have or what they can suggest for you.

As I recall James and his family moved from Kentucky shortly before his death. Perhaps you should consider searching there.
