PELLA - Dena Marie Ver Steeg, 95, of Pella, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at Pella Regional Health Center's Long Term Care Unit.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, Leo Renaud speaking. Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Pella. The family invites friends and relatives for fellowship at 1812 Washington St., Pella, following the committal service. Memorials: Bible Truth Publishers.

Dena Marie Ver Steeg was born April 21, 1906, in Pella to Arie and Elizabeth (Versteegh) Ver Steeg. She attended Pella Community Schools and graduated in 1924. She won a scholarship from Central College in Pella as the top graduate enrolled in Central's teacher training program. With summer school and correspondence courses, she graduated from Central in 1936 with a major in Latin.

She began teaching fifth grade at Lincoln School in Pella in 1928. By the time she retired in 1971, she had taught various combinations of grades from third through fifth, but usually fourth. She was the teaching principal at Lincoln for 19 years. She played and taught piano until she could no longer remember the notes. She spoke Dutch as well as English, and remained active in the Brethren Church as long as she was able.

For health reasons she moved to Hilltop Manor North in Pella, then to the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center. She was in fellowship with those gathered in the Lord's name at 1812 Washington St., Pella.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1913 and her mother in 1959; her half-sister, Cora Ver Steeg, in 1934; and two half-brothers, Henry Ver Steeg in 1954 and Paul Ver Steeg in 1958.
