PELLA - Madeline G. (Sis) Vanderzyl, 76, of Pella, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Her memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Second Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. Sophie Mathonnet-Vander Well officiating. No visiting hours are scheduled. Memorials: Scholte House Restoration Fund. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.
Madeline Gloria Vanderzyl was born March 17, 1925, in Pella to Simon H. and Grace Van Gorp Vanderzyl. "Sis" graduated from Pella Public High School, and then from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1947 with a library science degree.
She returned to Pella, and from 1949 to 1998 was acquisitions librarian at Central College. In fall 1987 she was appointed college archivist. When she retired at the end of the 1998-99 academic year she received the second annual Presidential Service Award.
She also was active in Pella Historical Society, and annually assisted people in tracing their Dutch ancestry. She was chairperson of the Scholte House Board and also was active at Pella Opera House. She enjoyed reading, writing and preserving history and genealogy. She was a member of Second Reformed Church in Pella. She enjoyed traveling extensively.
She is survived by a brother, Herb Vanderzyl of Newton; and three nephews: Lance and wife Gloria Vanderzyl, Ralph Vanderzyl and Thomas Vanderzyl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Ralph in 1945 and her twin Earl in 1947.
