PELLA - Olive Palmquist Terrell, 94, of Pella, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, at the Center for Long Term Care in Norwalk.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, Dr. David Timmer officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Memorials: Pella Community Day Care Center. Visiting hours begin this evening at the funeral home and continue until service time Friday; the family will greet visitors one hour before the service.

Olive Schakel was born Nov. 30, 1907, on a farm near Leighton to Luke L. and Lena Goemaat Schakel. She graduated from Pella Public High School with accreditation in normal training. She took courses at Central College in Pella and Drake University in Des Moines, then taught in rural schools in the Pella area, where she spent most of her life.

On June 17, 1930, she married Jennings Reuben Palmquist. They had six children: Evelyn, Greta, Karen, Roger, Eric who died at age 3, and Pauline who died at age 11. For several years, Olive was a flower designer. On Dec. 24, 1959, Jennings died. Olive then began working at the Rolscreen Co.

On March 4, 1967, she married Joseph Arnold Terrell in Pella. He died Dec. 14, 1989. Olive moved to the Center for Long Term Care in Norwalk in September 1998. She was a member of the Open Bible Church in Pella. She enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, doing handwork, reading and traveling. She wrote a history of the Amsterdam School near Pella, and a history of her family.

She is survived by her children and spouses: Evelyn and Pat Workman, Greta and Donald Van Hemert, all of Des Moines, Karen and Ronald Kingery of Monroe, Roger and Muriel Palmquist of San Antonio, Texas; two stepdaughters and spouses: Charlene and Richard Dusenberry of Oskaloosa and Rita and George Hodges of St. James, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eric Palmquist and a daughter, Pauline Palmquist; a grandson, Randy Kingery; both husbands; her parents; a sister, Joan McFall; and a brother, Leonard Schakel.
