PELLA - Iva Elizabeth Tanner, 93, of Pella, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville.
Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, the Rev. John McNabb officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Relatives and friends are invited to the home of Mike and Kendra Randol, 308 Hazel St., Pella, following the committal service. Memorials: Gideon's Living Memorial Bible Plan.
Iva Elizabeth Tanner was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Marion County near Pella to Irvin and Lucy Richards Tanner. She attended the Amsterdam Country Grade School near Pella and graduated from Pella Public High School. She then attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, where she studied to be a dietitian.
On Nov. 9, 1928, she married Peter A. Miedema. They had one daughter. Iva took the two-year Red Cross disaster preparedness training course at Central College in Pella. She then began working at Rolscreen. She then owned and operated the Dutch Inn Restaurant until opening a chenille shop in her home. On Oct. 24, 1968, her husband died at their home. On March 15, 1972, their daughter died.
Iva eventually moved to Prairie Village in Pella, where she lived for 20 years until moving to Hilltop Manor South in Pella. In August 2001 she moved to Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pella, and a 50-year member of the Women's Federated Club. She enjoyed cooking and reading. She appreciated the outdoors.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Dale Randol and his wife, Grace, of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Betty M. Randol; three grandsons in infancy: twins Jimmy and Jerry Randol in 1946, and Curtis Dale Randol in 1958; her father in 1934, and her mother, who lived with Iva and her husband for 21 years, in 1962; two brothers: Walter and Drewty (Jerry); and other siblings in infancy.
