POLK CITY - Mabel A. Mohler, 95, of Des Moines, died Monday, Oct. 1, at the Center for Long Term Care in Polk City.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Memorials may be given. Visiting hours are open today and continue until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Aimee Mabel Palmquist was born May 15, 1906, near Evans in Marion County to Saul and Emma Erickson Palmquist. The family moved to Harvey, and she attended Pella public schools. She graduated from Pella High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school for several years.

She married Clarence Howard "Babe" Mohler in Bethany, Mo. They lived in Pella, and in 1942 moved to Des Moines, where Babe died unexpectedly. Mabel then devoted her life to raising her two sons. In later years she worked at the Iowa State Income Tax Division in Des Moines, first in clerical services and later in a supervisory position.

She retired at age 75. She lived in Des Moines until September 2000, when she moved to the Center for Long Term Care in Polk City. She is remembered for her hard work, generosity and cooking skills. She enjoyed crossword puzzles.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: Edwin L. and Sharon Mohler of Polk City and John A. Mohler of Laguna Beach, Calif.; a grandson and wife: Mark and Robyn Mohler of Urbandale; two great-grandchildren: Travis and Courtney Mohler; and a sister, Pearl Larson of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers: Edwin, Jennings, Roland and Emil Palmquist; and a sister, Hilda Kernaham.
