MELCHER-DALLAS - Delbert Hayes, 67, of Melcher-Dallas, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas. Burial: Dallas Cemetery. Visiting hours begin 11 a.m. today at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas, with the family present 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Mike and Barb Hayes for medical expenses.
He was born in Knoxville. He lived in the Knoxville and Chariton areas before moving to Melcher-Dallas, where he had lived for the past 40 years. He was employed in quality control at the John Deere Des Moines Works, and retired in 1995. He served in the United States Army. He was a past mayor of Dallas and also a member of the city council. He was a member of United Automobile Workers of America Local 450, and a past member of the local Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife, Sondra, of Melcher-Dallas; three sons: Mike of Des Moines, Cortney of Oskaloosa and Adam of Melcher; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters: JoAnn Knobnak of Hamilton and Nancy Clark of Melcher-Dallas; and a brother, Terry Hayes of Knoxville.
