PELLA - William Abraham Bogaards, 84, of Pella, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at his home.

His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Third Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. John Van Den Berg officiating and the Rev. Kevin Korver assisting. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. The family invites friends and relatives to return to Third Reformed Church following committal for a time of fellowship. Memorials: Hospice of Pella or Third Reformed Church Mission Fund.

William Abraham Bogaards was born Nov. 7, 1917, to Abraham and Johanna Van Heukelom Bogaards on the family farm north of Pella in the Sandridge vicinity. Bill attended Sandridge Country Grade School through eighth grade. He farmed with his father. In 1936 the family moved to the Bethel neighborhood onto the John Boot farm.

On Dec. 15, 1937, he married Martha Faye Hoksbergen at the Third Reformed Church parsonage in Pella. Their son Jerry Adrian was born March 4, 1942. They lived on the Bethel neighborhood farm for the next 45 years.

Bill farmed a few years, then became a cattle buyer. He formed a partnership with Norman J. Rietveld; they established the Rietveld and Bogaards firm, which continued until Norman's death. Bill then continued in the cattle business with the help of John Bandstra. In 1982 he and Faye moved into Pella. Their son Jerry died June 13, 1992.

In 1997 Bill was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella. He was a Pella Golf and Country Club member, and played countless rounds of golf and games of cards with close friends. Bill and Faye enjoyed fishing and sightseeing vacations with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Faye; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Julie D. and Drew Hold and Isabella Brackney, all of Lake Jackson, Texas, Jeff W. and Mary Bogaards and Paighton Bogaards, all of Pella, and Jay A. Bogaards of Dallas, Texas; five sisters: Rachel Uitermarkt, Mollie Brom, Albertha (Naaktgeboren) and her husband Carl Mitchel, Jeanette Robus and Bernice Sneller, all of Pella; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Hoksbergen) Aalbers of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry A. Bogaards; a sister, Martha Doorenbal; and six brothers-in-law: Pete Doorenbal, William Uitermarkt, Franklin Brom, Henry Naaktgeboren, Norman Robus and Jake Sneller.
