PELLA - Alma Irene De Penning, 82, of Pella, died Sunday, Oct. 20, at C.L.C. University Nursing Home in Des Moines.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Visiting hours are open today at the funeral home, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. today. Memorials: Christian Opportunity Center and First Reformed Church in Pella.

Alma Irene De Penning was born Feb. 22, 1920, in rural Monroe. She lived most of her life in the Pella area. She was a home health care aide. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Pella, and the Anna Circle and Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She loved handwork, including needlework, crocheting, quilting and cross-stitching.

She is survived by six nieces and a nephew: Julia M. Thoel and husband Delmar of Manson, Robert G. De Penning of Lynnville, Lila J. De Penning of Mount Pleasant, Ruth E. McCorkle and husband Tom of Bedford, Texas, Erma Cater and husband Earl of Methow, Wash., Nancy J. Fulton and husband Randy of Wilbur, Neb., and Mary B. Arkema and husband Duane of Lynnville; her sister-in-law, Harriet De Penning of Pella; and many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
