PELLA - Cynthia Carter, 69, of Pella, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Pella Regional Health Center.

Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, Cordell Burton officiating. Burial: Coal Ridge Cemetery southwest of Pella.

Memorials: Hospice of Pella, American Red Cross or the Arthritis Foundation. Visiting hours begin noon Friday at the funeral home, with family present 5:30-8 p.m. Friday.

Cynthia Carter was born June 28, 1933, in Grimsby, England, to George Henry and Kate Gertrude Wilson Payne.

She married Lesley Carter on March 31, 1956, at Tankersly Methodist Church in Yorkshire, England.

She came to the United States in 1976, and lived in Missouri and Arizona before moving to Pella, where she had lived for 20 years. She was a secretary for Stanley Tools in England. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed knitting, baking bread, canning food and traveling.

She is survived by a son, Mark Carter of Pella; a daughter, Melanie Carter of Lamoni; seven grandchildren; a brother, Malcolm Payne of Port Carling, Ontario, Canada; and a sister, Clare Young of Davis, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 19, 1991; an an infant son, Dean Russel Carter.
