Paul Steenhoek, 47, of 3014 Eisenhower St. in Ames died Friday, May 10, at his home.

The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella, with Brother Donald Steenhoek officiating. Van Dyk Duven Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Richard Steenhoek as born Jan. 7, 1955, in Pella to Richard and Regina Van Zee Steenhoek. He graduated from Pella Christian High School in 1973.

On Feb. 9, 1973, he married Marsha Van Weelden. He farmed just southwest of Pella with his father and brother-in-law, Ronald Bandstra, until the farm crisis in 1985 prompted the family to move to Ames.

He attended Iowa State University and then was employed as a machinist for Sauer-Sundstrand until 1999.

On May 28, 1999, he married Julie Johnson. He cared for his parents until their deaths in 2001, then began working with his sons, Chad and Joe, in the Steenhoek Tree Service and then for Hach Chemical in Ames. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; four children, Chad Steenhoek and his wife, Wendy, of Ames, Joseph Steenhoek of Ames, David Steenhoek, who is attending Waldorf College in Forest City, and Allison Steenhoek, a junior in high school in Gilbert; three stepchildren, Jason, Kaitlin and Dylan Johnson, at home; two grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Warmink and her husband, Gary, of Georgetown, Texas, and Kathleen Bandstra and her husband, Ronald, of Pella; and a brother, Donald Steenhoek and his wife, Joni, of Wyoming, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
