Faith Irene Stephens, 74, of Los Alamos, N.M., died Saturday, Oct. 12, in an automobile accident.

Her funeral service was held Oct. 17 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas, the Rev. Jeff Flagg officiating. A memorial service will be held Monday at United Church of Los Alamos in New Mexico. Memorials: Betty Ehart Senior Center in Los Alamos.

Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas handled the arrangements.

Faith Irene Stephens was born Nov. 27, 1927, to Thomas and Daisy Musgrove Fridlington.

On Aug. 12, 1948, she married George E. Stephens; shortly thereafter, they moved to Los Alamos, N.M. They had two children, Janice and George.

Faith worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a museum guide for the scientific museum, now Bradbury Science Museum, and later as a public relations specialist, retiring in 1988. She went back to writing, this time for the Los Alamos Monitor. She also supported many worthy causes. She and her husband George actively supported construction of the Los Alamos Aquatic Center, construction and ongoing operation of the Betty Ehart Senior Center, the Los Alamos Day-Out Program, and acquisition of the Valles Caldera as a national preserve, among others.

She is survived by her husband, George Stephens of Los Alamos, N.M.; two sisters: Shirley Biddle of Melcher-Dallas, and Norma Ripkey of Champaign, Ill.; a brother, Fred Fridlington of St. Joseph, Mo.; a daughter, Janice Barnes of Los Alamos, N.M.; a son, George Stephens of Albuquerque, N.M.; granddaughters Casey and Jessie Stephens of Albuquerque, N.M., and Shanna Harrison of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandson Jonathan Stelzer of Albuquerque, N.M.; and many nephews, nieces and in-laws.
