Joyce Jabaai Ver Meer Simpson, 69, died Sunday, March 17, after a brief illness, in Albuquerque, N.M.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma, the Rev. George M. Salnave officiating. The body has been cremated and no visiting hours are scheduled. Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Epworth Methodist Church in Carlsbad, N.M., or First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma.

Joyce was born in Knoxville to Arie and Violet Heter Jabaai. At the age of 8 she and her brother Donald, age 6, went to live with Marie and Clarence Jabaai near Prairie City. Joyce enjoyed music and traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Glen Simpson of Carlsbad, N.M.; three children and spouses: Lois and Wayne Ake of Bosque, N.M., Douglas and Debra Ver Meer of Montezuma and Laura and Kevin Griffith of Carlsbad, N.M.; four grandchildren: Nicole, Brant and Matthew Ver Meer and Brandon Griffith; a half-sister, Phyllis Kline of Des Moines; and other relatives and many friends.
