PELLA - Lloyd G. Sheely, 69, of Pella and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, at his home in Pella.

His funeral service was held this morning, Jan. 7, at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Burial: Hopewell Cemetery, Rose Hill. Memorials: American Lung Association.

Lloyd G. Sheely was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Rose Hill to Morris (Mike) and Zella Gatton Sheely. He joined the United States Army in 1950 and served for 12 years before his discharge as a captain. He lived in California for several years and managed a machine shop. He moved back to Iowa and lived in Pella and Oskaloosa.

He owned and operated several bars in the area, and in the early 1990s owned and operated the Oskaloosa Liquor Store for five years. He moved to Pella two years ago.

He is survived by five brothers and three sisters-in-law: Eugene Sheely of Pella, Delmer and Marie Sheely and Darwin Sheely, all of Oskaloosa, Darrell and Zola Sheely of Rippey, and Roger and Donna Sheely of Carlisle; two sisters: Violet Valster of Leighton and Sandra Hudson of Keswick; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Bernard, Jerry and Larry Sheely; and three sisters-in-law: Hazel, Shirley and Phyllis Sheely.
