MELCHER-DALLAS - The Rev. Hannah Mae Johnson, 94, of Melcher-Dallas, died Tuesday, March 5, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Richard Arrowood officiating, the Rev. Dan Carter and the Rev. Norman Tosten assisting. Burial: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Friends may call at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas after 1 p.m. Saturday, with family present 2-4 p.m. Sunday. The family also will greet visitors 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Memorials: Assembly of God District 6 Missions.

Hannah Mae Johnson was born Oct. 6, 1907, in Dorrance, Kan. to Henry and Rose Kejr Stienle. She was raised in Dorrance. She became a traveling evangelist with her sister in 1929.

She married Max Johnson in 1934. They continued to be evangelists until coming to the Oskaloosa Assembly of God Church in 1947. For 28 years she ministered alongside her husband, preaching on Sunday evenings, teaching Sunday school classes and missionettes, directing women's ministries, helping with prayer meeting services and being the church pianist and musician.

She was known to family and friends as Sister Johnson. After they retired in 1975, they moved to Melcher-Dallas, and later pastored the Norwood Assembly of God Church for more than 12 years. She taught a Sunday school class and vacation Bible school until two years ago. She was considered a mother and grandmother to many.

She is survived by two sisters: Mary Sorenson of Shenandoah and Lydia Baker of Montgomery, Ind.; and by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, on Aug. 21, 2001; her parents; three brothers: Henry, Dave and Sam; and two sisters: Frieda Palmer and Bertha Easter.
