PELLA - Bernice Meinders, 89, of Pella, died Sunday, Sept. 8, at Pella Regional Health Center.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. Burial: Black Oak Cemetery, rural Pella. Visiting hours are open today at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. today. Memorials: Pregnancy Care Center of Pella or The Bible League.

Bernice Bruxvoort was born Dec. 31, 1912, to Dick and Hattie Van Kampen Bruxvoort. She grew up in Sully, and farmed near Leighton for over 30 years.

She married Gilbert Meinders on Feb. 20, 1940, at her parents' farm home near Sully. She was a member of Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, flower gardening, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Marvin R. and Mary Meinders f Pella, Harold N. and Florence Meinders of Pella and Gene D. and Ellouise Meinders of Leighton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Katherine A. and Derrel Van Mersbergen of Fremont and Dorothy M. and James De Vries of Prairie City; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother and three sisters-in-law: Herman and Kay Bruxvoort of Newton, Minnie Bruxvoort of Pella and Della Meinders of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert, on May 9, 1993; an infant son, Marion R. Meinders; six sisters: Lizzie Slagter, Nellie Van Wyk, Gertie Owens, Hattie Olsthoorn, Jennie Jochems and Effie Bruxvoort; and three brothers: Gerrit, Jake and Guy Bruxvoort.
