PELLA - William Den Adel, 100, of Pella, died Sunday, Dec. 30, in the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center.

His funeral service was 1:30 p.m. today, Jan. 2, in the chapel of Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, the Rev. Donald Orange officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Memorials: Long Term Care Unit, Pella Regional Health Center.

William Den Adel was born Aug. 2, 1901, on the family farm north of Pella to Walter and Jennie Vos Den Adel. He attended Bell (European No. 1) Country Grade School through eighth grade.

On March 6, 1924, he married Johanna Van Engelenhoven at her parents' farm home near Otley. They lived on their farm north of Pella until 1946, when they moved into Pella. Bill remained active in agriculture-related activities. He was an ASCS bin inspector for more than 30 years, and a soil commissioner for six years.

He and Johanna spent several winters going south. Johanna died Jan. 18, 1985. Bill moved into Midtowne Apartments in 1985. In 1999 he moved to Fair Haven East in Pella, and to the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center in October 2001. He was known as a true gentleman with a good sense of humor. He loved to fish and play pool, appreciated music and enjoyed raising flowers. He was a member of Otley Reformed Church until 1937, when he and Johanna joined Third Reformed Church in Pella.

He is survived by four children and spouses: Donald L. and Cornelia De Jong Den Adel of Pella, Ruth L. Fazio of Leawood, Kan., Joyce V. and Robert Brown of Villisca and Fern L. and Kenneth Uitermarkt of Pella; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law: Cora Van Houweling of Des Moines, Carrie (Pres W.) Steenhoek, Bessie (Andrew) Kuiper and Katie (Leroy) Vroom, all of Pella; and a sister-in-law, Clara (the Rev. Everett) Van Engelenhoven of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son-in-law, Peter Fazio; his parents; and four brothers: Abraham, Benjamin, Walter and John Den Adel.
