PELLA - Gertrude De Kock, 91, of Pella, died Thursday, Jan. 24, in the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center.

Her funeral service was held Jan. 28 at Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. William Zeilstra officiating. Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Pella. Memorials: Long Term Care Unit, Pella Regional Health Center. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude De Jong was born Oct. 26, 1910, on her parents' farm near Leighton to Antonie and Gertie De Geus De Jong. She attended Centennial Country Grade School in rural Mahaska County.

On March 4, 1937, she married William De Kock of Pella at her parents' farm home. They had four daughters. They moved into the home of his parents, Jan J. and Sybilla De Kock north of Pella. They continued to farm the home place until August 1984, when they retired and moved into Pella.

Gertrude was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning produce and cooking. In August 1995 they moved into Hilltop Manor North in Pella. Gertrude moved to the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center in October 1998. Bill died Feb. 20, 2001. Gertrude was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church, and the Christian Fellowship Hour Society and later the Priscilla Ladies Aid. She also was a member of Pella Christian High School Auxiliary. She was an efficient organizer of social activities.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: Lavonne and Robert De Ruiter of Pella, Twila and Logan Terpstra of Sully, Lois and James De Jong of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Darlene and John Meier of Tripoli; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann (Mrs. Bert) Hoksbergen of Pella; and two sisters-in-law: Alma Van Zee of Denver, Colo., and Josephine De Jong of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 13 siblings: Margaret Bogaards, her twin brother Cornelius in infancy; Cornelius De Jong, also in infancy; Nellie Blom; Tena Ozinga, Neal De Jong, John De Jong, Josena Den Hartog, Albertha De Jong in infancy, Albert De Jong, William De Jong, Grace Witzenburg and Tony De Jong.
