PELLA - Paul DePenning, 83, of Pella, died Friday, May 24, at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella of cancer.

His funeral service was held this morning, May 28, at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. Burial: Sully Cemetery, Sully. Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Hospice of Pella Comfort House.

Paul DePenning was born June 15, 1918, west of Sully to Leendert and Allie Buitenwerf DePenning.

On Jan. 16, 1941, he married Gertrude Van Dyke in Sully. She preceded him in death. He married Evalena Bokhoven on Jan. 22, 1988. He was a farmer, and retired in 1981. He had lived on farms in the Searsboro and Sully areas, and had lived in Pella for 21 years. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. He enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Barbara DePenning of Pella, and Paula and Alan Driscoll of Broomfield, Colo.; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Jerry and Sharon DePenning of Marion, Dale DePenning of Sully and Donavon and Darlys DePenning of Sully; six grandchildren; two stepbrothers and spouses: Marion and Treva Dieleman and Elmer and Emma Dieleman, all of Pella; two sisters-in-law: Lucille DePenning of Newton and Catherine DePenning of Sully; four stepdaughters and husbands: Kathleen and Henry Van Steenwyk of Knoxville, Marjorie and John De Hamer of Eddyville, Deloris and Don Van Rees of Sully, and Carolyn and Ron Olson of Portland, Ore.; and two stepsons: Darrell Bokhoven of North Liberty and Howard Bokhoven of Sanford, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Carrie Dieleman DePenning; his first wife, Gertrude Van Dyke DePenning; a son, Delbert, on Dec. 10, 1991; his second wife, Evalena Bokhoven DePenning; three brothers: Walter, Herman and Wilbur DePenning; and two sisters: Gerdena and Tracie.
