Funeral services for Mrs. William De Reus, the former Marie Van Gorp, were conducted on Tuesday, May 14, at the VanDyk-Duven Funeral Home with the Rev. Harmon Wierenga officiating. Burial was made in the Oakwood cemetery, Pella. Casket bearers were Ed. Van Gorp, Guy, Will and Howard De Reus, Donald and Fred Kingery.
Mrs. De Reus died in Colorado, where she had made her home for the past years and where earlier services were on Monday, May 13th, at the Olinger Mortuary.
Marie, daughter of Matthew and Gertrude (Schakel) Van Gorp, was born at Pella, Iowa, on September 17, 1879. Her parents, while she was very young, moved to Otley where she received her early education. She continued her schooling until she was some 20 years of age.
On June 27, 1900, she was united in marriage with William De Reus at Denver, Colo. From the time of her marriage until her death, the family resided at Denver. Death came on the 9th of May, 1963 at Englewood in Arapahoe County, Colorado, from complications of her age (83 years, 7 months and 22 days).
She is survived by her husband, son Victor living at Ilion, New York; her sisters; Mrs. Dwight (Lucie) Moore of Marshalltown, Mrs. Bob (Bessie) Steen of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Cora Ray of Council Bluffs. Preceding her in death were the following brothers and sisters: Jennie, Minnie, Mary, Marie, Leonard, Henry, Jacob and Grace.
