Ned A. de Reus passed away at the Mahaska hospital, Oskaloosa, at 6:30 Monday evening, Dec. 30. He had undergone an operation there on the 21st of December. Pneumonia was the cause of his death.
Ned A. de Reus, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arie de Reus, was born in 1877 in the Bethel neighborhood north and west of Pella. At the age of ten years he lost his mother, and thereafter he made his home with Dirk Rietveld. His boyhood and early manhood were spent in the same neighborhood.
In 1904 he married Gertrude Klein, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. H. Klein, of Pella, who survives him; and five children came to them, one of whom, a boy named Matthew, died in 1911. The other children are: Gary de Reus of Pella; Marion de Reus of Harvey; Mrs. Jean Tharp, of Richland; and Harold de Reus of Pella.
Mr. de Reus had made his home for many years in Pella, where he had engaged in carpentering; and of late years he was an employee of the Rolscreen Company. Pella Chronicle.
