Lewis C. Van Der Wilt, 91, of Ames were held September 14, at the Helser Chapel, Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames, the Rev. Kent M. Organ officiated.

Interment was at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Lewis C. Van Der Wilt was born February 12, 1911 in Pella, Iowa. His parents were Gerritt and Dena (Klein) Van Der Wilt. He graduated form Pella High School in 1929 and from Central College in 1933.

He married Cornelia "Mae" De Haan on May 21, 1935 in Pella and resided in Ames.

Lewis was a school teacher and taught in South Dakota. He was an Agency Manager for the Des Moines Register for 30 plus years. He then taught in Collins, Alleman and United Community Schools. He retired in 1973.

Lewis was a member of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames and Past Secretary of Isaac Walton League of Ames. He passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at the Bethany Manor in Story City of heart failure.

He is survived by two daughters: Mary Hicks of Ames and Dorothy Kilstrom of Rhodes; one sister: Eva Mae Van De Pol of Blakesburg; and one brother: Raymond Van Der Wilt of Pella; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia "Mae" in 1993; three sisters and four brothers.

Arrangements were handled by Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Memorials may be made to Bethany Manor or the Collegiate Presbyterian Church.
