Funeral services for Joezina Uitermarkt, 91, of Pella were held August 12, 2002 at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, the Pastor William Zeilstra officiating. Music was provided by organist Edith Meppelink and special music by Larry Van Zante.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons: Lloyd Uitermarkt, Ross Uitermarkt, Floyd Uitermarkt, Brandt Uitermarkt, Jeff Uitermarkt, Jerry Uitermarkt and Doug Uitermarkt.

Joezina Meindertsma was born June 22, 1911 in Marion County, south of Monroe, Iowa to William and Dena (Schippers) Meindertsma. She attended school in Marion County. At the age of sixteen, Joezina made her profession of faith at First Baptist Church in Monroe where she was a faithful member and regularly attended prayer meetings until her marriage.

On February 24,1931, Joezina was united in marriage with Jake Uitermarkt at the Christian Reformed Parsonage in Otley. Two sons were born to this union: Edward Lee and Andrew Junior. They made their home on farms around Runnells, Prairie City, Pella and Leighton. Jake and Joezina moved into Pella over twenty years ago. They were faithful members of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

Jake passed away on February 20, 1997. Joezina lived in an apartment on East First Street in Pella before moving to the Westridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville last February. She passed away there on Friday, August 9, 2002, at the age of ninety-one years, one month and eighteen days.

Joezina is survived by two sons and their wives: Edward L. and Minnie Uitermarkt and Andrew J. and Mary Ellen Uitermarkt all of Pella; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and a sister, Dorothy Meindertsma of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dena Meindertsma; her husband, Jake Uitermarkt; two brothers: Pete and Arnold Meindertsma; and three sisters: Marie Heemsbergen, Fanny Dop and Margaret Meindertsma.

Arrangements were handled by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella.
