Betty Jean Elscott was the last of four children that were born to Gysbert (Guy) and Rena Terpstra Elscott. Betty was born on November 4, 1932 near Taintor, Iowa. She attended the Case Country Grade School in this vicinity.

On September 2, 1954 she was united in marriage with Henry James Rozenboom at the Open Bible Church in Pella. They had met on a blind date and special memories of their courtship was that they enjoyed hot fudge sundaes. To this union two children were born: Sheryl Lynn on August 5, 1955 and Galen Eugene on September 8, 1959.

Betty and Henry moved to his parents farm south of Sully following their marriage where they lived the remaining 48 years of their married life together. Betty was a homemaker all those years and during the later years did babysitting and was a meal server at the Sully Christian Grade School in Sully.

Then in 1992 she suffered a stroke. This limited Betty as to her capabilities in assuming her responsibilities at which time her faithful husband, Henry, assumed this role as well. For the past eight years he had been doing the meal preparation as well as attending to her physical needs. This dedication and devotion enabled them to remain together in their home just south of Sully.

On Friday morning, November 1, 2002, Betty passed away there in the presence of her husband, Henry and their two children, Sheryl and Galen. Her funeral service would subsequently be celebrated on her 70th birthday.

Betty attended the Sully Community Church in Sully. She and Henry always looked forward to their coffee times, which consisted of several sweets, together with their family on Sundays. She appreciated Southern Gospel music. She and Henry enjoyed traveling. Betty enjoyed gardening, doing embroidery, shopping and was very faithful in sending cards.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; their daughter Sheryl L. and her husband, Paul Parmley of Grinnell; their son Galen E. Rozenboom and his wife, Peggy (Wichhart) of Sully; and two very special grandchildren. Of her original family, Betty leaves her two brothers and their wives: Carroll and Esther Elscott, Lester and Marilyn Elscott all of Pella; and several nieces and nephews. In addition, Betty leaves three special aunts: Anna (Lambert) Olsthoorn of Sully, Wilhelmina (Glen) Monsma of Pella, and Wanda and Cornie Dunsbergen of Lynnville.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Guy and Rena Elscott; and her sister Dorothy and her husband, Glen Renaud.

Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Grinnell or the American Stroke Association.
