Funeral services for Bernice Meinders, 89, of Pella were held September 12, at the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. John H. Piersma officiated. Music was provided by pianist Vicki Van Mersbergen and special music by "The Hallelujah Chorus."

Interment was at Black Oak Cemetery, rural Pella, Ia. Casket bearers were grandsons - Ronald Meinders, Stephen Meinders, Glenn Meinders, David Meinders, James Meinders, Calvin Meinders, Stuart Van Mersbergen, Mark Meinders, Daniel De Vries, Andrew De Vries, James De Bruin, Todd Zylstra, Jason Bandstra, Greg Eekhoff, and Chris Garmon. Floral committee were her granddaughters - Ruth De Bruin, Marsha Meinders, Michelle Meinders, Patricia Zylstra, Valerie Bandstra, Kimberly Van Mersbergen, Jennifer Meinders, Deborah Eekhoff, Linda Garmon, Anabelle Meinders, Rebecca Meinders, and Erin Meinders.

Bernice Bruxvoort, the daughter of Dick and Hattie (Van Kampen) Bruxvoort, was born December 31, 1912 near Sully. She attended the Sully Christian Grade School through the 8th grade and made her profession of faith at the Sully Christian Reformed Church.

On February 20, 1940 Bernice was united in marriage with Gilbert Meinders at her parent's farm home near Sully. To this union, six children were born: Marion, Marvin, Harold, Katherine, Gene, and Dorothy. They farmed the family farm until 1972, when Gilbert and Bernice moved into Pella.

In 1991, they moved to Fair Haven East. Gilbert passed away on May 9, 1993.

Bernice was an active member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. It was Bernice's life-long desire that she and her family and friends all serve the Lord.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, flower gardening and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bernice passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the age of eighty-nine years, eight months, and eight days,

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Marvin R. and Mary Meinders, Harold N. and Florence Meinders, all of Pella; Katherine A. and Derrel Van Mersbergen of Fremont; Gene D. and Ellouise Meinders of Leighton; and Dorothy M. and James De Vries of Prairie City; nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A brother and his wife, Herman and Kay Bruxvoort of Newton; and two sisters-in-law: Minnie, Mrs. Gerrit Bruxvoort of Pella, and Della, Mrs. Tim Meinders of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Hattie Bruxvoort; her husband, Gilbert Meinders; an infant son, Marion R. Meinders who died in 1941; six sisters: Lizzie Slagter, Nellie Van Wyk, Gertie Owens, Hattie Olsthoorn, Jennie Jochems, and Effie Bruxvoort; three brothers: Gerrit Bruxvoort, Jake Bruxvoort, and Guy Bruxvoort.

Arrangements were handled by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Pregnancy Care Center or The Bible League.
