Funeral services for Edward Peter Memmelaar, 82, of Prairie City were held October 19 at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City, the Pastor Adrian Eising and Rev. William Huyser officiated. Music was provided by Doris Van Gorp, organist, with special music by Mark and Rachel Memmelaar, and Karen Memmelaar, pianist.

Interment was at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Casket bearers were Mark Memmelaar, Max Memmelaar, David Talma, Jason Holwerda, Donald Holwerda, Jeff Memmelaar, Joey Davis, Michael Holwerda, Alan Bishop, and Lee Talma.

Edward Peter Memmelaar died Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at Clearview Manor in Prairie City.

He was born near Leighton, Iowa March 27, 1920, the son of Andrew and Hattie (Roozendaal) Memmelaar.

On November 12, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Huyser in Pella. They farmed for a time, later moving to Prairie City, where they made their home for the remainder of their lives. Edward owned Ed's Garage for over 33 years in Prairie City. He made profession of faith at an early age. He was an active member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, serving on council as elder and deacon. He also served as a Cadet Counselor. He had served as a board member of Prairie City Christian School, Pella Christian High School and Dordt College. Edward was an EMT serving on the Prairie City Ambulance for many years. He also enjoyed flying, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Arlan and Elaine, Escondido, Calif. and family; Mark and his wife Rachel, Jeff and his wife Ann and Karen, Ronald and Becky, High Point, North Carolina, and family; Stacy and husband Ryan Taylor, Jill and husband Shay Bryant and their two children Bailey and Gavin, and Laura and Max, three daughters and sons-in-law: Phyllis and husband Donald Holwerda, Chattanooga, Tenn. and family Michael, Michelle and Jason; Marlene and husband Lee Talma, Pella and family; David and Kristin; and Sheryl and husband Alan Bishop, Prairie City and family; Holly and husband Joey Davis, Becky, Susan and Jonie.

He was preceded in death by Elizabeth in 1994; his parents, three brothers and six sisters.

Arrangements were handled by the Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.
