Funeral services for Kathryn Dorothy Van Vliet, 80, of Pella, who died Jan. 25, were held Jan. 29 at First Baptist Church in Pella. Rev. John McNabb, officiated at the service. Judy Steenhoek was organist and soloist and Lori Baugh, Jeff Wichhart and Vicki Brown, eulogists.

Casketbearers were her "grandchildren." Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Kathryn Dorothy Lautenbach was born Sept. 16, 1923 to Casper John and Elizabeth Jane De Reus Lautenbach. She attended the Webster Grade School and graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1941.

On April 21, 1942 she was united in marriage with John Harry Van Vliet, Jr. in Pella. Katy and Sage, names they acquired as youths, raised five children: Thomas Harry, Patricia Kay, Lois Ann , Elizabeth Jayne, and Lori Ruth. In 1993, they moved into Pella where they made their residence at the Pella Manor, where Sage had served on the board. Then on April 14, 1996, Sage passed away at the age of 74 years.

She is survived by her five children and their spouss: Tom and Kelly Van Vliet of Pella; Pat and Delmar Wichhart of Pella; Lois and Harvey Vander Weie of Collierville, Tenn; Lori and Curits Baugh of Pella; and Jayne and Ed Nelseon of Whitefish, Mont; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Of her original family Katy leaves her brother, Robert Lee Lautenbach and his wife, Nancy of Wellington of Florida; her half-brothers and half-sister, John Lautenbach and his wife, Esther of Knoxville; Larry Lautenbach and his wife, JoAnn of Pella; Danny Lautenbach of Harvey; Carol Jeffers of Ottumwa ;her brother-in-law, Neal A. Kuyper of Bradenton, Flor.; and a sister-in-law, Jean Hoogenakker of Des Moines.

Katy was preceded in death by her husband, Sage; a son-in-law, Paul Vandevoort; a grandson-in-law, Mike Brown; her father, Casper J. Lautenbach; her mother and step-father, Elizabeth and John Stek; her sister, Marjorie Louise Kuyper ; and a half-sister, Pauline Mc Combs.

For those desiring, memorials may be designated for the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella.

Funearal arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
