TYSSELING, BORGMAN, PALTZER

Funeral services for Arthur Herbert Tysseling, 83, of Pella, were held, April 5, at First Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Ray Tilstra, officiated the service with Randy Lubbers, assisting. Janice Klein was organist and a duet was sung by Judy Rumery and Ruth Ann Kuhn.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Military honors by the Van Veen-Van Hemert American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella. Casket bearers were "Niece and Nephews" Kent Joosten, Jana Jordan, Bill Paltzer, Tom Paltzer, Gary Vroom, Jim Vroom, Paul Vroom.

Arthur Herbert Tysseling was born on May 11, 1920 to Herman A. and Nellie Borgman Tysseling. Art received his grade school education at the Wheat Grow Country Grade School and graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1937.

Art was united in marriage with Lucile Paltzer on July 26, 1941. In September of 1943 Art was inducted into the U. S. Army Air Corps. Prior to his active duty Art worked on the family farm and at the Pella airport while moving his wife, Lucile, and their twin daughters, Arlene Faye and Willene Kaye, to the home of Lucile's mother.

Art's overseas duty began in New Guinea where he joined the 340th Fighter Squadron, 5th A.F. He served as an aircraft mechanic in the Southwest Pacific, Philippines, Okinawa area and was discharged as CPL, U.S. Army Air Corps in November of 1945. Following his discharge, Art moved back to the Tysseling family farm in January of 1946 where he farmed until late January, 1953.

Arthur is survived by his wife Lucile, their three daughters; five grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. They and their families are: Arlene F. Tysseling, Dahm of Pella, Willene K. Tysseling James and her husband, Harold of Ottumwa, Helen A. Tysseling Goins and her husband, Croy of Melbourne, FL. Art leaves his younger sister, Evelyn (Calvin) Joosten and his younger brother, Marvin Tysseling and his wife, Mert all of Pella; along with two sisters-in-law: Florence (Mick) Paltzer of Pella and Norma (Clifford) Paltzer of Gardiner, New York.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Debra Kay James; his parents, H. A. and Nellie Tysseling; his brother-in-law, Calvin Joosten; a sister-in-law, Marie (Paltzer) Vroom and her husband Lester, along with their daughter Linda; and two brothers-in-law: Mick Paltzer and Clifford Paltzer.

For those desiring, memorials may be given to the First Reformed Church of Pella to be designated for the library fund.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk Duven Funeral Home.
