STEENHOEK, DYKHUIS, GAASS

Funeral services for Jarold N. Steenhoek, 83, of Reasnor, who died May 9 were held May 13, at the Third Reformed Church Chapel in Pella. Rev. Andy Kamphuis officiated at the services. Lena Vandenberg was organist.

Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casketbearers were Lance Dieleman, Jaren Steenhoek, Norm Dieleman, Kyle Steenhoek, Jeremy Steenhoek, Curtis Steenhoek, Brent Dieleman, and Daren Dieleman.

Jarold was born southeast of Galesburg on Oct. 26, 1920 to Naldo C. and Maggie (Dykhuis) Steenhoek. He attended Brown Country School through the eighth grade. He worked as a hired farm hand until his marriage on Dec. 5, 1946 to Helen Lucile Gaass at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. To this union four children were born: Janice Kay, twin daughters Carleen Ann and Colleen Faye, and Jared Ray. Jarold and Helen farmed the family farm where he was born until his health declined, and he became a resident of the Griffin Nursing Center. He served for many years on the telephone boards of Reasnor and Sully, as well as Sunday school treasurer.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Janice and her husband Norman L. Dieleman of Pella; son, Jaren Steenhoek and wife Cathy of Pella; five grandsons; sister, Pauline De Cook (Henry) of Unionville, Mo. and sister-in-law, Wilma Kaldenberg of Lynnville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant daughters; his brother, Gilbert; a brother-in-law, Harry E. Gaass; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Gaass.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella Comfort House or Third Reformed Church.

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
