Prayer Vigil service for Joseph Russell Steele, 43, of Pella who died Feb. 26, was held February 29, at Van Dyk- Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Rev. Robert D. Gruss, officiated at the service.

The Committal service was held March 1, at Main Station Cemetery in Centerville with Rev. Joe Miller, officiating. Casket bearers were Joseph Steele, Nathan Steele, Robert Christiansen, Travis Christiansen, Brandon Christiansen, and Martin (Buck) Visser. Honorary bearers were Jeanette Steele, Tammy Steele, Dody Boat, Phyllis Christiansen, Kathy Kooyman, Lucas Kuyper and Shirley Rudd.

Joseph Russell Steele, II, was born to Joseph Russell and Jeanette Mae Starcevich Steele on Nov.12, 1960 in Centerville. Russell, graduated from South Tama High School at Tama, with the Class of 1979. He then enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, and then attended Central College in Pella, and the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. While attending Central College,Russell acquired an interest for traveling and then participated in the International Study Programs. Russell studied in the programs in Yucatan, Mexico and England. While living in the city of Westminster, he worked as a Procurement Director for the Westminster council, as a nanny and acquired and developed an interest in landscaping. During this time he had also managed a Hide Processing and Export plant in Corpus Christi, Tex. for several years.

Russell is survived by his parents, Joseph R. and Jeanette M. Steele of Pella; his younger brother, Nathan Daniel Steele and his wife, Tammy of Boulder, Colo.; and two special nieces. He also leaves several aunts and uncles, as well as cousins.

For those desiring, memorials may be given for the Pella Public Library, 603 Main Street in Pella.
