Funeral services for Wilbur Roose, 89, of Pella, who died May 4, were held Monday, May 10, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

Wilbur was born on July 9, 1914, near Peoria to Leonard J. and Jennie (Kloosterman) Roose. He grew up on a farm near Peoria. He received the first four grades of his education at the Fleming Public School and the last four at the Peoria Christian School, graduating in 1928.

On Feb. 18, 1941 he married Bertha Stursma. To this union six children were born, one of whom died in infancy. Wilbur and Bertha farmed from 1941 until 1974, first near New Sharon for two years, and then near Peoria. They retired from farming in 1974.

While living near Peoria, Wilbur served on the Peoria Christian School Board. He also served many years as an elder in the church, both at Peoria Christian Reformed Church and Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. After moving to Pella, he drove the senior citizen bus for 22 years, retiring in 1998 due to health reasons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bertha Roose of Pella; four sons and their wives, Leon and Jana Roose of Crete, Ill., John and Karen Roose of Lake City, Colo., Ernie and Esther Roose of Peoria, and Timothy and Sharon Roose of Pella; a daughter and her husband, Mae and Henry Bork of London, Ontario; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bible League or Crossroads Bible Institute.

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
