Funeral services for Garret John Roose, 95, of Pleasantville, who died Sunday, December 21, were held Dec. 27, at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Dr. Arthur Miricle and Rev. William Zeilstra officiated the service. Betty Huyser was organist.

Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton. Casketbearers were Brian Roose, Greg Roose, Doug Roose, Kyle Light, Harold Gorter, and David Roose.

Garret was born on May 25, 1908 in Marion County near Harvey, to William J. and Gertie (Hollander) Roose. Garret began his schooling at the Burr Oak School near Olivet.

On August 1, 1935 he was united in marriage with Bessie Van Hall in Leighton. They farmed near Olivet for nine years, and fourteen years in the Pella area.

After retiring from the farm, they moved to Pella where he worked at Pella Corporation. After retiring from Pella Corporation, they moved into the Pella Manor. Garret worked part-time at Central College for seven years.

Surviving are his four children and their spouses: Wilford and Irene Roose of Pella, Berdene Norton of San Diego, California, Gerald and Judy Roose of Pella, and Larry and Twyla Roose of Pella; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Gertrude Wassink of Pella.

Garret was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie; one brother, Wilbur; and one sister, Jennie Mathes.

Memorials may be made to the Haitian Education And Literacy Program (HELP)

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.
