Funeral services for Edith Roorda, 97, of Pella, who died March 27, were held March 30, at Second Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Sophie Mathonnet- Vander Well, officiated the service. Kris De Wild was pianist. Patti Van Zante, soloist.
Interment was at Porter Grove Cemetery in Pella.

On January 1, 1907 twin daughters, Edith and Ethel Roorda, were born to Gerrit I. and Angeline (Annie) De Kock Roorda. After moving to Pella, Edith continued her grade school education at the Pella Community Schools and graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1925. She then attended Central College in Pella and graduated in 1929 with a mathematics degree, along with her twin sister, Ethel.

Edith taught school for two years and later began working in a law office. She was the legal secretary for the Van Zante and Van Zante Law Office in Pella for many years. Following their retirement, Edith from the law firm and Ethel as a college mathematics and science professor at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, made their home together again in Pella.

They lived at 615 East Second Street for many years until moving into the Pella Manor. They later became residents at Fair Haven East where Edith was living when Ethel passed away on December 22, 1991.

Edith was the last surviving member of her original family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her father, Gerrit Roorda, her mother, Angeline Roorda, her older sister, Angeline Roorda, her sister, Beulah Roorda, and her twin sister.

For those desiring memorials may be given to the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella to be designated for the Long Term Care Unit.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
