Funeral services for Bessie Kuiper, 90, of Pella, who died Jan. 25, were held Jan. 30 at the Chapel of the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Kevin Korver officiated at the service. Judy Steenhoek was organist and Jim Vermeer was soloist.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Loren Kuiper, Stan Vroom, Edwin Vander Werff, James Braafhart, Harlan Den Adel and Brian Vroom.

Bessie Van Engelenhoven, was born June 1, 1913 to Benjamin and Tryntje Tol Van Engelenhoven. Bessie attended the Richland Country Grade School near Otley where she completed the eighth grade. From 1934 to 1936, Bessie served the Native American children near Dulce, New Mexico.

On May 21, 1936, she was united in marriage with Andrew G. Kuiper at the parsonage of the Third Reformed Church in Pella by the Rev. Gerrit Menning. To this union two children were born: Darlene Joy and Logan Keith. Andrew passed away on February 7, 1995. Bessie later became a resident at Fairhaven East.

Bessie is survived by her two children: a daughter, Darlene J. and her husband Roger Picard of Peoria, Ariz; a son, Logan K. Kuiper, of Los Alamos, New Mex.; and three grandchildren .Of her original family Bessie leaves three sisters: Cora Van Houwelinge of Des Moines; Carrie Steenhoek formerly of Pella and Katie Vroom of Pella; and three sisters-in-law: Cora Kuiper, Edith Kuiper and Marge Kuiper all of Pella.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew G. Kuiper; her parents, Ben and Tryntje Van Engelenhoven; four sisters and three brothers: Jennie Dykstra, Ethel Menninga, Johanna Den Adel, Elva Monster; a brother, Arie, who died in infancy, Rev. Everett Van Engelenhoven and John B. Van Engelenhoven.

For those desiring memorials may be designated for the building fund of the Third Reformed Church or the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
