Funeral services for David Kooistra, 80, of Pella, who died Jan. 14, were held Jan. 17, at Berean Baptist Church in Pella. Rev. Michael Craighead, officiated at the service. Murray Goemaat was organist, Wendy Vander Linden was pianist, the quartet was Murray Goemaat, Curtis Loynachan, Scott Renaud, and Thomas Steven with soloist M. Gene Newman.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were his grandsons Shannon Hoekstra, David Hoekstra, Darrell Kooistra, Darren Kooistra, Bryan Dieleman, Mark Schnell and Duane Van Wyk. Honory casket bearers were his granddaughters Sharla Dieleman, Sheila Schnell, Sharlene Van Wyk Sharilyne Hoekstra, Jeanna Hoekstra and Jessica Hoekstra.

David Brand Kooistra was born Dec. 26, 1923 to Weitz and Catherine Brand Kooistra. David attended country grade school north of Lynnville and continued to reside with his mother until he was married.

On March 7, 1945 he was united in marriage with Pauline Vander Wilt at Oskaloosa and to this union three children were born: Donna Lou, Verla Rae and Merlin Dale. Following their marriage, Dave and Pauline farmed west of Sully for 35 years. In 1977 they moved to Pella into the home they had built.

Dave was employed at Vermeer Manufacturing Company at the time and continued working there for 17 years. In 1990 he retired from there and began doing custodial work at Webster School in Pella.

David is survived by his wife Pauline, and their three children and their spouses: Donna L. and Harlan Terlouw of Pella; Verla R. and Gregory Hoekstra of Pella; Merlin D. and Joy (Bogaards) Kooistra of Pella; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Of his original family, Dave leaves three sisters and their mates: Sylvia Renaud presently of Pella; Frances Van Wyk of Sully; Velma and Arthur De Boef of New Sharon; one brother and his wife, Virgil and Flora Kooistra of Sully; his sister-in-law, Nellie and Bernard Kooistra presently of New Sharon; and two other sisters-in-law: Florence Renaud of Pella and Luella Vander Wilt of Sully.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Weitz and Catherine Kooistra; a sister, Frances who died infancy; his two sisters and their husbands: Lenora and Floyd Reynolds, Edna and John Vande Krol; his brother, Bernard Kooistra; his brothers-in-law: Clarence Renaud and Wilburn Van Wyk; his sister-in-law, Leola Kooistra; and two other brothers-in-law: Carroll Renaud and Floyd Vander Wilt.

For those desiring, memorials may be designated for Hospice of Pella or the mission fund of the Berean Baptist Church in Pella.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
