Funeral services for Laura Hessing, 48, of Pella, who died March 18 were held March 22 at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Arthur J. Van Wolde, officiated and Lois Schepel was a participant. Lisa Groenendyk was the accompanist. Calvary Chorale provided music and music recorded by the Gritters family and accompanied by Laura on February 1 was played.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were her brothers and brother-in-law: Gordon Gritters, David Gritters, John Van Gorp, Steve Roozeboom, Marty Overweg, Dale Hessing, Glen Hessing, and Kent Sewright.

Laura Beth Gritters was born on March 13, 1956 in Pella to Frank Martin and Revena Ellen Zylstra Gritters. Laura attended the Pella Christian Schools, graduating from Pella Christian High School in 1974.

On May 21, 1976 she and Larry Wayne Hessing were united in marriage at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Laura graduated with a elementary education degree in 1978. On July 20, 1984, they adopted their twin daughters, Jodi Lynn and Jana Lee, who were born on April 20, 1984. Upon the family's return to Pella, she taught sixth grade at Pella Christian Grade School.

Laura is survived by her husband, Larry W. Hessing of Pella; their twin daughters: Jodi and Jana; her parents: Frank and Revena Gritters of Pella; her two brothers and three sisters and their spouses: Gordon Eugene and Chris Gritters; Barbara Ann and John Van Gorp; Beverly Rae and Steve Roozeboom, all of Pella; Carol Ruth and Marty Overweg of New Holland, S.D.; David Jon and Cindy Gritters of Pella; her father-in-law, John Hessing of Oskaloosa, and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dale and Debra Hessing of Eddyville; Glen and Sheryl Hessing of Oskaloosa; Janice (Hessing) and Kent Sewright of Urbandale; Karen Hessing of Ankeny; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, many cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents: Rienk and Johanna (Rolffs) Zylstra; Martin and Jeannette (Vande Kerk) Gritters; her mother-in-law, Doris (Bruxvoort) Hessing and a brother-in-law, James Hessing.

For those desiring memorials may be given for either the Pella Christian Grade School or the Pella Christian High School in Pella.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk Duven Funeral home.
