Funeral services for Jacob M. Brom were held, Jan. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pella. Rev. Robert Gruss officiated the service. Lynn Cooper was vocalist.

Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Pella. Casketbearers were Jeff Schutte, Brett Nossaman, Edger Lopez, Anthony Lopez, John Van Berkum, and Andy Van Berkum.

Jacob Max Brom was born on July 26, 1914, to Frank and Margaret Brom in Mahaska County, northeast of Pella. Jacob attained a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Central College in May 1941.

He was inducted into the United States Army in June 1941, and retired from the army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1964, serving twenty-three years. He was then employed as a social worker at the VA Hospital in Knoxville until 1980.

On May 19, 1962, John was united in marriage to Sonya Brom in Korea.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja; his son, Jan Keith Brom of California; two daughters, Jessica and her husband John Rooney of Des Moines, and Spanos Yon Ae of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Wilma Swank, Carrie Van Haaften, and Bess Vos; and his brother, Franklin.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Christian Services in Pella.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.
