Funeral services for Minnie Brand, 94, of Pella, formerly of Sully, who died, Jan. 12, were held Jan. 16, at First Reformed Church in Sully. Rev. Roger Punt, officiated the service with Rev. Brice Hoyt, assisting. Rita Vos was organist and Dennis E. Brand was eulogist/soloist. Duets were sung by Beverly Brand, and Judy Steenhoek.

Interment was at Sully Cemetery in Sully. Casket bearers were Steven J. Brand, Timothy J. Brand, Darrell R. Gosselink, Gary E. Geels, Kenneth D. Van Soelen, Randall J. Wee, and Jonathan J. Nelson.

Minnie Van Genderen was born on August 8, 1909 in southeast Jasper County to William and Anna De Hoog Van Genderen.

On January 22, 1931 she was united in marriage with Lyle Peter Brand in Sully. To this union four children were born: their first daughter, Gweneth Ruth who died at birth in 1932, Charles Dean, Karen Lee and Dennis Eugene. Lyle and Minnie tended livestock and sowed crops on his parents, (Charles and Marie Nelemans Brand), farm west of Killduff. Following their retirement in 1972, they moved into Sully where they continued to live the remainder of their married life. On April 27, 1995 he passed away in Pella.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Charles D. and Joyce Brand of Newton; Karen L. and Gary Needham of Cedar Falls, Dennis E. and Beverly Brand of Pella. Of her original family, Minnie leaves just two sisters: Nellie Kooistra of New Sharon, and Jeanette De Ruiter of Grinnell, along with a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mathilde (Brand) and Delmar Schultz of Sully.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Gweneth and her husband, Lyle; by her parents, William and Anna Van Genderen; and the following brothers and sisters: Gerret Van Genderen, Gertie Vander Kamp, Margaret Leydens, Henrietta Poyner, Kate Kleinpaste, Lena Bosare, Leonard Van Genderen, John Van Genderen, Peter Van Genderen and three siblings who died in infancy.

For those desiring, memorials may be given for the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
