Funeral services for Jacob Stouwie, 91, of Sioux Center, and formerly of Leighton were held April 16, 2003 at the Leighton Christian Reformed Church in Leighton with the Pastor Don Ringnalda officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Leighton.

Jacob died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home in Sioux Center. He was born August 1, 1911 near Leighton, the son of Koenraad and Mary Van Haaften Stouwie. On September 10, 1911 he was baptized by the Rev. F.J. Drost, and on June 4, 1933 he made his Confession of Faith.

He was united in marriage to Nellie Boender on December 15, 1937 near Pella, and she died January 25, 1998. He farmed near Peoria, Iowa, until they moved to Leighton in 1957. He then began working for the Rolscreen Co. in Pella, and retired from there at age 65.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Marlene (& Ivan) Bennink of New London, Iowa, and Trina (& Neal) Moss of Sioux Center, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, and 17 Great Grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Kenneth John Stouwie; a grandson: Mark Alan Moss; and a sister: Hattie Vander Meyden.

Memorials may be made in Jacob Stouwie's name.
