Funeral services for Richard L. Sukkel, 81 of Monroe were Monday, October 13, at Monroe United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Poe, officiated and organist Jacqueline Robinson with Jodi Miller for vocals.

Interment was held at Graceland Cemetery in Pella. Casket Bearers were David Van Veen, Tom Kaldenberg, George Sjaardema, John Van Veen, Joe Kaldenberg, and Brian Boot.

Richard was born on August 25, 1922, in Otley, the son of Hubert & Hattie (Dykhuizen) Sukkel. Richard attended Rose Hill Country School.

On April 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Neola June Owen in Pella. Richard farmed in the Reasnor area until his retirement in 1997.

Richard also worked at Pella Corporation for 22 years, retiring in 1990. He lived with his family on a farm near Reasnor until moving to Monroe in 1997. Richard was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.

Richard is survived by his wife, Neola; a daughter, Marlys DeVries of Monroe; a son , Mark Sukkel of Monroe; three grandchildren, and a sister Henrietta Poortinga also of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Mrs. Raymond Brouwer.

The family designated memorials to the Hospice of Pella.
