Funeral services for Louie Schippers, 95 of Pella, who passed away Oct. 7, were held Oct. 11 at First Reformed Church in Pella. The Rev. Raymond Tilstra officiated. Janice Klein was the pianist and Michael and RuthAnn Kuhn were vocalists.

Interment was held at Graceland Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Todd Schippers, Jeffrey Ditch, Larry Van Halen, Charles De Cook, Robert De Cook, and Robert L. Swank. Honorary bearers were Joe Carpenter, Jerry Swank, and Roy Vander Kraats.

Louie James Schippers was born south of Pella on May 4, 1908 to William and Mae Raymie Schippers. Louie began his schooling at the Porterville Country Grade School near Pella and completed his formal education at the Richland Country Grade School in Jasper County near Galesburg.

In February 29, 1939, Louie and Annie Gertrude De Penning were united in marriage in the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Pella. To this union three children were born: Keith Norman who was stillborn, David Leroy, 1940 and Phyllis Ruth on August. Following their marriage, Louie and Annie continued to live with his parents on their farm until 1941. They then began farming on their own and did so until 1961 when they moved into Pella.

Louie then began working at Vermeer Manufacturing Company where he was employed for 13 years. Following his retirement from there, he worked for Midwest Sanitation Service until he retired 1985. Louie and Annie made their home at 220 Carson Street until moving into FairHaven East in Pella in December of 2001. Then in November of 2002 Louie became a resident in the Sheltered Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center.

Louie is survived by his wife Annie; their son, David L. Schippers and his wife, Shirley of Lynnville; their daughter, Phyllis R. (Van Dyk) and her husband, Jeffrey Ditch of Anamosa; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Of his original family, Louie leaves a sister, Jennie (Carpenter) Couser of Guttenburg.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Keith Norman; his parents: William and Mae Schippers; his brother, Andrew Louie Schippers; and two sisters: Eva, Mrs. Henry C. Van Halen and Wilma, Mrs. William Swank.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
