Funeral services for Verna "Ruth" Ray, 71, of Mesa, Ariz. were held March 12, 2003 at First Reformed Church in Pella.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Verna "Ruth" Ray passed away on March 9 after a battle with breast cancer.

Ruth was born on March 3, 1932 to John J. and Emma (Hiemstra) Buwalda in Pella. Ruth attended Pella Community Schools until 10th grade when she moved to Mesa, Ariz. with her parents and sister Joyce.

She met her husband Leon Ray in Arizona. They were married on August 3, 1950. To this union two daughters were born, Risa Lynn and Ronna Le.

In 1956 they moved back to Iowa. Ruth and Leon moved to Minneapolis in 1970 and resided there until retiring to Mesa, Ariz. in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, parents John and Emma Buwalda, Brother Lee Vriezelaar and sister Sara Plath.

She survived by daughters Risa Anderson and Ronna Vinge, son-in-law Mark Vinge, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. She also survived by sisters, Joyce Kirk and her Husband Raymond form Chariton, and Alice Ver Dought and her husband Arie from Monroe, sisters-in-law Mary Louise Vrizelaar, Pella, and Margaret Davis, Elaine Rackley, and Iris Sauve from Arizona.
