Funeral services for Lillian M. Payne, 96, of Des Moines were held January 9 at the Wesley Acres Community Room, the Rev. Julie Wehner of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church officiated. Music was provided by pianist Barbara Salmon and soloist Kathi Fieldsend.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Lillian Payne was born in Pella and had lived in Mason City for 32 years before moving to Des Moines 10 years ago.

She was a schoolteacher in Mason City before retiring.

She was a member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church, PEO chapter EH, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine and the Des Moines, Polk County and National education associations.

She passed away Monday, January 6, 2003 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

There are no survivors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lillian Payne, and her two sisters.

Arrangements were handled by Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Memorials may be made to her church, Central College or the Salvation Army.
