Memorial services for Anna Goemaat, 93, formerly of Pella were held Aug. 9 at Third Reformed Chapel in Pella.The Rev. Donald Orange officiated. Organist was Lena Vandenberg and Tom Vandenberg was the soloist.

Committal services were held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Roberta Goemaat, Jonathan De Nooy, Murray Goemaat, Joyce Vandenberg, Ronald Vandenberg, and Jake Grandia. Honorary casket bearers were Mabel Van Vark, Florence Verrips, and Robert Grandia.

Anna De Vries was born on July 23, 1910 in Marion County, the oldest of four children born to Pieter L. and Dirkje Boonstra De Vries. Anna received a grade school education and was raised in the Tracy and Peoria. She then worked as a nanny for various local families.

On November 28, 1947 she was united in marriage with John Abraham Goemaat at Pella. Anna became the adopted mother of Roberta Goemaat, who was born on November 28, 1940. In 1948, Anna, John and Roberta moved south west of Prairie City, where they farmed for three years.

In 1951 they returned to Pella where John became an employee of the Pella Canning Factory and then the Rolscreen Company. Anna was a homemaker and worked in the kitchen at Fair Haven West and was an employee at Jaarsma Bakery.

In February of 1984 John's health forced him to enter the Pella Community Nursing Home where he passed away on June 3, 1987 at the age of 89 years. Following his death, Anna lived at the Pella Manor before moving to Tower Park in Oskaloosa. She suffered a stroke on December 1, 1995 and ten days later became a resident at the Siesta Park Manor in Oskaloosa where she was cared for the remainder of her life. She passed away early Wednesday morning, August 6. She was a member of Third Reformed Church in Pella.

Anna is survived by her adopted daughter, Roberta Goemaat of Pella and a brother-in-law, John De Nooy, Jr. of Pella and a sister-in-law, Verna (Lewis) De Vries.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Goemaat; her parents: her father, Peter L. De Vries; her mother, Dirkje De Vries; her sister, Edith Vos y 22, 1980 and her husband, Peter G. Vos; her sister, Tillie De Nooy; and her brother, Lewis De Vries.

For those desiring, memorials may be given to the Georgian Court Manor in Oskaloosa, Iowa to be designated for the aviary

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
