Funeral services for Carroll De Koning, 70 of Leighton, who passsed away Oct. 23, were held Oct. 27 at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Kenneth Schepel officiated and Barbara Nunnikhoven was the organist.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton. Honrary casket-bearers were his grandchildrern and step-grandchildren: Rebecca De Koning, Thomas De Koning, Samuel Fopma, Seth Fopma, Sarah Fopma, Sharlee Fopma, Brittany De Koning, Jonathan De Koning, Joshua De Koning, Matthew De Koning, Chad Beveridge, Travis Beveridge, Dustin Knipfer Faith Knipfer. Casket bearers were his nephews, Curt De Koning, John Maassen, Larry Schut , Marvin Schut, Ronald Schut , Timothy Schut.
Carroll James De Koning was born on December 12, 1932 to Cornelis (Case) and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Jansen De Koning. Carroll attended the Fairview Country Grade School near Monroe. Following his 8th grade graduation, Carroll began farming with his father and was doing that when he was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1953. Carroll served his country during the Korean War as a military policeman. He was honorably discharged in 1955 at which time he returned to the farm with his parents.
On January 17, 1957 he was united in marriage with Margaret Ann Steenhoek, at the Leighton Christian Reformed Church in Leighton. Following their marriage, Carroll and Margaret Ann continued to farm near Monroe and to this union five children were born: Terry Craig, Pamela Joy, Sharon Ann, Steven Paul and Michael Jay.
Carroll is survived wife, Margaret Ann, their five children and their spouses: Terry and Dianna De Koning of Otley; Pamela and Robert Beveridge of Des Moines; Sharon and Steven Fopma of Lynnville; Steven and Sandy De Koning of What Cheer; and Michael and Deanne De Koning of Pella; ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Of his original family, Carroll leaves his oldest brother, Albert De Koning and his three sisters: Bertha Schut, Joan and her husband, Gilbert Schut all of Pella, Iowa , Harriet and her husband, Arthur Vande Kieft of Prairie City, and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Bokhoven also of Pella. Carroll also leaves the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gerrit B. and Christina Steenhoek, Berneda Steenhoek, Elizabeth and Dorrell Uitermarkt all of Pella.
Carroll was preceded in death by an infant grandchild, his parents, Case and Elizabeth De Koning, his brother, Dick De Koning; his sister-in-law, Dorothy De Koning and two brothers-in-law: Jacob D. Schut and Marvin A. Steenhoek.
For those desiring, memorials may be designated for Hospice of Pella or the Sully Christian Grade School in Sully.
Funeral arrangements were handeld by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
