Funeral services for Nina L. De Jong, 94, of Pella, who died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care Unit, were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Chris Piersma officiated at the services with Rev. Norman Kolenbrander assisting. Karen Bokhoven was soloist.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were John De Hamer, Doug De Jong, Greg De Jong, Gary Moffett, Robert Schwan, and Fred Vande Broek.

Nina was born on July 28, 1908, near Pella, to Peter G. and Antonetta (Dykstra) DeJong. She attended the Wheat Grow and later Black Oak No. 6 country grade schools, which she graduated from the eighth grade. She lived at the farm home north of Leighton and was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton.

In May of 1953, she moved to Pella. She became a charter member of the Trinity Reformed Church. After moving to Pella, Nina worked at Pella Produce and also cleaned at Central College.

She enjoyed crocheting and traveling until her eyesight failed due to degeneration. In June of 1989 she became a resident of Fair Haven East until 1999 when she entered the Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pearl Van Steenis and Clara De Jong; three brothers-in-law, Russell Van Arkel, Merle Van Steenis, and Peter De Hamer and a nephew, Ronald De Hamer.

She is survived by five sisters, Mabelle VanArkel, Grace De Hamer, Ada De Jong, Charlotte De Jong and Esther Vande Lune all of Pella; a brother, Gilbert and his wife Dorothy De Jong of Leighton; 15 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews and 22 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Bible League or Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home.
