Funeral services for Judy M. Boyd, 66, were held April 25, 2003 at Third Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. Don Orange, presiding, Rev. Kevin Korver, officiating, Mr. William V. Boyd, remembering; Mr. Arvin Van Hall, remembering. Music provided by Mr. Peter Meerworth, accompanist, and Mrs. Marie Stravers, soloist.
Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Dennis and Caryl Davis, Arvin and Darlene Van Hall, and Marvin and May Lou Vande Lune. Honorary casket bearers were Bill and Peggy Sheppard, Don and Alerdeen Stursma, and Willard and Ruth Ver Meer.
Mrs. Judy M. (Sparger) Boyd, an only daughter of Fred R. and Jane Minnie Jackson Sparger, was born on March 14, 1937, in St. Paul, Minn. She attended kindergarten and first grade in St. Paul and then her parents moved. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1955.
On July 7, 1956, Judy married her high school sweetheart, William Albert Boyd. To this union two children were born: William Verne and Lori Jane Boyd. Judy and Bill lived in Newport, Minn., until moving to Woodbury, Minn. in 1966. Bill began a career with the 3M Company in 1955, and in 1973 he was offered a position with 3M in Knoxville. Judy, Bill, Billy and Lori moved to Pella, in 1974. Judy worked for Schiebout Tire Company from 1974 to 1976, and then was hired by Vermeer Manufacturing Company at Pella. She started in the Purchasing Department, then transferred to the Sales Department. She worked the last seven years of the career in the Human Resources Department at Vermeer. Judy and Bill retired from Vermeer and 3M respectively, on April 28, 1994. Although Judy continued to do part-time work for Vermeer on her computer at home for a few years following their retirement.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, Bill; her son: William V. Boyd and his wife, Christine of Lake Elmo, Minn.; and daughter: Lori J. and her husband, Duane M. Miller of Colfax. Also 6 grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Eloise (Max ) Sparger of Madison, Wisconsin.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents: Fred R. Sparger, who passed away July 11, 1991 and Jane M. Sparger, who passed away June 8, 2002; and her brother, Max R. Sparger.
Judy enjoyed fishing for sunfish and bass on their pond in Rural Pella. She also enjoyed playing on her computer. A faithful member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella, Judy volunteered for kitchen duty for a few years and worked in the church office on Sunday mornings. She passed away on Monday, April 21, 2003.
Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Dwen Funeral Home in Pella.
