Gardner Freeman Betterton, son of O.J. and Lydia Izetta Betterton was born in Audrain Co., Missouri, December 26, 1881 and died August 25, 1953 at the age of 71 years 7 months,and 29 days.

When a young man he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized and joined the Coal Ridge Baptist Church.

On March 3, 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Maude DeMoss. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Lorain Kingery of near Columbia.

Surviving are his wife, Maude Betterton, his daughter, Lorain Kingery of Columbia; three grandchildren, Patricia, Norman, and Richard, and son-in-law Ray Kingery; two brothers, Harold and Tom of Knoxville, and many other relatives and friends.

Practically all his life was spent on a farm five miles northeast of Knoxville, until three years ago when he retired from the farm and moved to Knoxville.

Funeral services were held August 28, at 2 P.M. conducted by Rev. Fred Dietderich. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
